Rhum agricole from Martinique, made by renowned distillers Rhum J.M., whom grow their own sugar cane for their spirits. The VSOP is a tasty expression which is matured for three years in re-charred Bourbon barrels. Following this, it is finished in lightly toasted virgin American oak barrels for another year before it is bottled. Nose: Butterscotch, vanilla and cinnamon. Plenty of oak notes. Palate: Oily and sweet with a core of toasty oak notes. Subtle grassy notes, brown sugar and rich toffee. Finish: Lingering hints of chocolate. Overall: A good introduction to the sweet, grassy world of rhum agricole.
