The 2018 Dalia Maris Pignul (Pignolo) leaps up from the glass with a wild display of savory herbs, crushed violets, blackberry, white pepper, smoke and undergrowth. Its textures are velvety-smooth, coating all that they touch in concentrated red, black and wild berries, with teeth-chattering acidity and slow-mounting tannins that play a tug-of-war for supremacy. A full minute passes before its veil of intense dark fruits begins to lift, revealing a youthfully dry structure. The Pignul is an amphora-aged Pignolo, and it's quite a formidable wine, which I would give another three years of cellaring first.
