Here's another terrific bottle in a growing collection of excellent Pinot Bianco wines from the far north of Italy, hailing from partly volcanic soil whose quartz gives the wine its name. The Elena Walch 2019 Alto Adige Pinot Bianco Kristallberg is subtle, yet determined, with fresh aromas of white peach, pear and lightly fragrant quince. The bouquet is delicate and light, yet the wine imparts more power and lasting structure in terms of mouthfeel. Some 8,000 bottles were released, and you get great value.
