Vines at 350 m near Heraklion. Fermented in tank and then aged 12 months in 1,500-litre and 3,000-litre oak casks. Light cherry red. Light aroma of red cherry, both fresh and dried, invitingly bitter-sweet. Deliciously dry, slightly leathery tannins. Needs more time to show the perfumed, mature Liatiko character but this is fresh and lively now. Long, too, for a seemingly lightish wine. A food wine par excellence, though the tannins are smooth enough that you could drink this on its own if you are OK with tannins. If you can possibly buy more than one bottle and keep one for a few more years, you will be rewarded by Liatiko's silky, mature complexity.
