The 2016 Chianti Classico Argenina is fabulous. When so many estates are releasing 2018s and 2017s, Il Palazzino presents a striking Chianti Classico from the great 2016 vintage that overdelivers big time. Dark and imposing, as these wines tend to be, the Argenina possesses remarkable balance and tons of complexity. Dark cherry, gravel, sage, mint and leather bring out the darker side of Sangiovese. The 2016 is intense in the glass, and yet retains so much Sangiovese translucence. Best of all, it is an absolute steal.
