Offering up a sweet bouquet of cherries, plums, baking chocolate, rose petals and pipe tobacco, the 2018 Côte de Brouilly Les Feuillées is medium to full-bodied, rich and gourmand, with an enveloping core of fruit underpinned by a muscular chassis of powdery tannin. Located in Odénas, Laurent Martray works with old vines in Brouilly and Côte de Brouilly. Winemaking is traditional, with whole bunches, macerations of eight to 10 days and élevage in used barrels and foudres. These 2018s showed very well and will appeal to admirers of old-school cru Beaujolais. I look forward to paying Martray a visit before too long.
