The 2017 Samuel's Collection Shiraz replaces the Patchwork Shiraz in the Yalumba lineup, being a blend of 14 valley-floor vineyards. It's dark fruited and medium to full-bodied, adding hints of spice, cola and vanilla along the way to a velvety finish.

Wild blackberry and huckleberry flavors are concentrated, with details of dried lavender, white pepper, black tea and spice. The tannins are dense but polished.

This is a well-balanced and drinkable yet food friendly example of Barossa's most famous wine style. It oozes ripe plums, licorice, dried green herbs, dried florals, warm earth and graphite nuances with a lick of spicy oak. The tannins are fine and chalky textured, and a line of acidity lifts the plump fruit, herbs and spice into brightness.
