The 2018 Gewurztraminer Roche Roulee is quite a bit drier than the Roche Calcaire tasted next to it. The candied orange peel and passion fruit flavors are a bit more overt, but the wine retains terrific tension and energy to balance things out. The Roche Roulee has a real sense of structure to it that will work beautifully at the dinner table. It is a blend of valley floor sites in Turckheim and Herrenweg.
Damask rose, orange peel and pith and juicy peach make for an attractive combination on the nose of this wine. The palate has gentle sweetness that is countered by pleasant, phenolic bitterness that lends shape to this off-dry, spicy, mellow wine. Yes it is generous, but all that zesty pithiness makes the wine intriguing. The off-dry finish is textured.
