The extensive organic vineyard of Quinta do Ataide is in the Douro Superior. This wine, made from selected parcels of vines, is full, spicy with hints of the wood aging, along with mint aromas. Its richness and its dense texture are lightened by acidity.
The 2015 Quinta do Ataide is an equal blend of Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca, with Tinta Barroca, Tinta Roriz and others filling out the last 30% of the blend. It was aged in an 80/20 mixture of used French oak and stainless steel and comes in at 14.7% alcohol. This is beautiful. It is dry, pure and serious. Even though it seems just a bit riper than the 2014, it is every bit as dry (rather than fruity), perhaps a result of the wood treatment. It maintains that wine's structure, but it might have more mid-palate finesse - and that purity. Overall, this is a nice follow-up to the 2014, although styled a bit differently.
