The 2019 Artist Series Red is a blend of 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 23% Shiraz and the rest Cabernet Franc, all aged for 18 months in one-third new French barriques. It comes in at 15.2% alcohol. Surprisingly elegant, this also has a distinctive flavor profile with some blue fruits, beef and a touch of herbs all mingling together. It is admirably expressive. The fruits and flavors are all surrounded by velvety texture and supported by some tannic pop. It handles the wood very well, and there's extra credit for the nice mid-palate finesse. This is quite well done. In its youth, it is not quite ready, although approachable. It will be interesting to see if this has the ability to evolve and become something even more. It just might. I'm leaning up on this for the moment, but it does have something to prove.
