The 2018 L’Etoile Sélection from Jean-Luc Mouillard is a blended wine composed of sixty percent Savagnin and forty percent Chardonnay. The wines are not topped off in casks and a light flor forms on the top of the wines prior to their being racked for bottling. The wine offers up a nice touch of nuttiness on the nose from its contact with the flor, wafting from the glass in a mix of lemon, apple, Fino Sherry-like nuttiness, chalky minerality and a floral topnote. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied, focused and complex, with fine balance and grip, a lovely core and a long, nutty finish. A lovely bottle and one of my favorites of the many sous voile wines I tasted for this report.
