The 2021 is the first vintage made of the Riesling Erste Lage No. 21, the year this designation became possible in the Mosel (see more in the 2021 report). It is from the core parcel of the Scheidterberg, in effect the south-facing part of an east-south-east-exposed vineyard, in the lateral valley of a lateral valley of the Saar, a very cool site. A glorious scent of tangerine peel and smoke on the nose suggests saltiness and slate. The palate has concentration and subtle texture. There is something spicy here, something tingling and beautifully precise plus a hint of pithiness. Lovely, elegant and utterly mouth-watering. (Dry) Drink: 2025-2040. (Jun 202
