Produced in tiny quantities, the 2021 Spätburgunder R was harvested in Siebeldingen. The fruit is from the Sonnenschein Grosse Lage, including declassied GG barrels. It was aged for 16 months, mostly in used pièce. Earth, smoke and lifted berry have a lovely notion of crushed, dried herbs. The palate is ripe, smooth and full of red berry, almost with a touch of berry compote. The body is concentrated despite its svelteness. What is astonishing is the wine’s aromatic subtlety and very deeply scented nature. The tannins are rened, fused and polished. Exquisite. (Bone-dry)
