With fall rapidly approaching, it's time to shift gears and dust off the decanter. Nothing is better with braised meats, mushroom risotto (and much more) than nebbiolo. I've selected four favorites from four outstanding producers that are drinking well now and will only get better. Mother nature was very kind to the Piemonte in 2015-2017 and you can't go wrong with any of these. To kick off the fall season we lowered our already sharp pricing (please note we cannot rebuy any of these at release price, so once they are gone, they are gone). It would be a very smart strategy to stock up on 2015-2017 Barolo and Barbaresco!

2017 Barolo La Serra Marcarini
So much ash and dried-strawberry character. Burnt orange-peel undertones. Tar, too. It's full-bodied with chewy tannins and a flavorful finish. Lots of rose petals nicely integrated now.

2016 Barbaresco Bernadot Ceretto
The 2016 Barbaresco Bernardot is a super-classic wine. Finely cut, the Bernardot is all about energy and tension. Dark red cherry, cedar, tobacco, spice and leather gradually develop in the glass, but the 2016 is tightly wound and nowhere near ready to show all of its cards. It may very well be the most powerful, austere Bernardot I have tasted here. There is a real sense of weight and gravitas to the 2016 that adds to its embryonic feel.
94 Points Antonio Galloni Vinous Media
The 2016 Barbaresco Bernadot takes the intensity level up a notch when compared to the base Barbaresco that I tasted immediately before this wine. The Bernadot is silky and fine with a pretty embroidery of floral aromas, cola, grilled herb and balsam herb. It will enjoy a long cellar life, at least a decade, but this wine is also perfect for near and medium-term drinking.

2016 Barolo Giachini Fratelli Revello
Gorgeous aromas of ripe strawberries with white truffles and roses. Medium-bodied with a very tight, focused palate of chewy yet polished tannins and a long, flavorful finish of berry, walnut, cherry and some chocolate. Serious

2015 Barolo Bergera La Spinona Pietro Berutti
This is a dense, serious red with dried-strawberry, orange-peel and walnut character on the nose and palate. Full body and firm, chewy tannins that are polished and refined at the same time. This needs time to soften, but I like the sleek, linear path in the center palate.
