D2 takes its name from the grand route du vin, or great wine road that travels through the historic chateau region of Bordeaux. Always leading with Merlot, D2 is a traditional Bordeaux-style blend sourced from over a dozen of the state's most prestigious vineyards across the Columbia Valley to create the ultimate expression of Washington State terroir. Created as a second to Chaleur Estate, D2 has become the winery's most sought-after label. First vintage 1992.
"The 2021 D2 shows the promise of the vintage, with deep concentration and outstanding quality. Initial aromas of blackberry, cassis and green peppercorn lead to a palate bursting with beautiful richness and texture. The high-quality, fine-grained tannins of this wine allow approachability in its youth yet have the firmness and backbone to provide aging for 15+ years. Winemaker's Notes
"The 2021 D2 is mostly Merlot but includes 36% Cabernet Sauvignon and splash of Cabernet Franc. Named after the well-known route in the Médoc, it has a terrific bouquet of currants, lead pencil shavings, spice, and a touch of flowers. This carries to a medium to full-bodied, round, supple, beautifully balanced red with integrated tannins and a great finish. Its purity and balance are spot on."
