Biodynamic artisan wines from one of Burgundy's greatest names...
The name Lafon gets the attention of any white Burgundy lover. A true maverick, Dominique Lafon took over his family's vineyards in 1984 and in a short time with his attention to terroir, quality and detail the wines has a cult following. They now sell for astronomical prices (if you can find them!) Never one to rest on his laurels, in 1999 Dominique saw the enormous potential of the Maconnais to produce high quality white Burgundy. This beautiful region had been known for mostly industrially farmed grapes for volume wine production. With biodynamic farming and no new oak, Dominique focused on old vine plots at higher altitudes to show the true potential of the region. Coupled with careful work in the vineyards and cuverie you have a winning combination. These wines really punch above their weight class and are yet another of example of why you should always seek out wines from legendary producers who have other "side" projects (think Ch des Tours, Cheval des Andes, etc, etc). Considering the prices of white Burgundy these days the below wines are a relative bargain to boot.
