The first installment of our Spring Tasting Series celebrating the Cherry Blossom Festival
and all libation Japanese kicks of with top-flight 'koji whisky' and shochu from our friends at
Honkaku Spirits. Jake Tannenbaum will be here to pour three expressions of Takamine, a
whisky made of barley fermented with koji, in lieu of malting. According to a review from
Imbibe Magazine, its flavor is unlike anything else in the whiskey category — boasting a "rich and robust" taste with "funky earthiness" that begins with a "lovely interplay of barley
and honeyed sweetness," proceeds into notes of saltiness, and then finishes in "walnut-like
dryness." Surely a one-of-a-kind experience in the whisky world. Also on the docket is Akae
Honkaku Shochu, made from the rare Murasaki Masari purple sweet potato. It is a unique
and bold spirit from the Miyazaki Prefecture. Join us, won't you?
