Its first red, Barbera Cà di Pian, followed in 1985. Today Pin’s sons Giorgio, Bruno and Carlo run roughly 100 hectares of vineyards, and Giorgio leads winemaking. The Bionzo Barbera d’Asti Superiore first appeared in 1998.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eThe 2022 La Spinetta Barbera d’Asti Superiore DOCG Bionzo is 100% Barbera from the Bionzo vineyard in Costigliole d’Asti, where vines more than 60 years old grow on south-facing calcareous clay and marl at about 250 meters. Farming is organic. Grapes are harvested from late September into early October and fermented for 11 days in rotofermenters. The wine ages 16 to 18 months in French oak barriques, 30% new, and is bottled unfiltered and unfined.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eDark ruby in color, this Barbera opens with cherry, plum and dark fruit, joined by rose and violet florals. The palate is textured and layered, with the variety’s lively acidity folded into concentrated fruit rather than standing apart.
