Blai Ferré grew up among Priorat’s steep vineyards, worked under Álvaro Palacios, and since 2000 has also been a winemaker at his wife’s family winery, Celler Cecilio in Gratallops, one of the first wineries in the DOQ. His own vines sit around 400 meters up on llicorella, the region’s famous black slate, and are farmed organically (not certified). He picks by taste, ferments with wild yeasts and bottles unfiltered, with a light touch meant to let that smoky slate come through.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eOna is a small-production collaboration (about 5,000 bottles) with Núria Garrote-i-Esteve of the importer Vino Vi \u0026amp; Co. The name is Catalan for “wave” and is also her daughter’s name, and her daughter designed the label. A blend of Garnatxa, Syrah and Carinyena raised in stainless steel instead of oak, it’s bright and lively for Priorat, with ripe cherry and plum, subtle smoke, spice and a mineral finish. Delicious now, and it’ll hold 5 to 10 years.
