A long-time veteran of the wine business in DC, Howard worked on the wholesale side for many years, then moved to retail and now has started a very successful importing business focusing on the wines of Spain. Casar de Burbia – Godello
Casar de Burbia is a winery that focuses on quality in the excellent expression of its wines, proof of the constant efforts made to capture all of the essences provided by the privileged terroir of El Bierzo.
They are a family-run winery from the region El Bierzo (Spain), which has been making wines in the traditional way for more than two decades. Their wines are made with Mencía and Godello grapes from their own vineyards (27 Ha) located in the Camino de Santiago at an altitude of 900 meters over the sea level.
The vineyard is arranged into 42 plots, classified according to their altitude, orientation and soil characteristics. They are artisan and limited. Experienced in the winemaking process and knowledge of the Terroir.

2019 Casar de Burbia Godello Fermentado en Barrica
There is more evolution and aromatic development in the golden colored 2019 Godello Barrica, with notes of citrus and yellow fruit, quite high ripeness (14.5% alcohol) and good acidity. They selected the grapes from higher altitude in the Paraje Valdaiga in Valtuille de Arriba and macerated the grapes for seven days, destemmed but whole, with carbonic snow. It started fermenting in stainless steel and then, after two days, was transferred to 500- and 700-liter oak barrels, where it fermented at 11 degrees Celsius for 45 days. It matured in barrique for 12 months. It's smoky, spicy and quite showy, with a round and lush palate

Bodegas Nodus - Bobal Utiel-Requena Chaval el Vino Joven
It's not often that the prestigious Penin Guide, Spain's most highly regarded wine review compendium, gives 88 points to such an inexpensive wine, but Chaval is an extraordinary Bobal, Valencia's perfect summer red. Initial fermentation is long and slow with an even longer maceration in stainless steel tanks. Its color is a beautiful deep cherry with violet overtones. It's abundant nose of forest greens, strawberries and raspberries is complimented by light spice. A soft, medium bodied wine with lovely soft, tannins that help keep the acidity perfectly balanced with delicious fruit
