Please join Doug Mohr this Saturday for a fantastic lineup of authentic wines. Started by Mac Bev alumnus Roy Cloud, Vintage 59 is one of the finest import portfolios in the USA. If you see their sticker on the back label, you can be 100% certain you are getting a wine of character and balance that has been truly hand selected by Roy and his team (I know this as fact as I've run in to Roy in Burgundy, Loire and Rhone!). Please stop by – you do not want to miss this!
Roy hired Doug Mohr, as true DC wine legend (remember him from the glory days of Vidalia?) to represent his portfolio We are very excited to have Doug here to pour the following:
2021 Melanie Pfister Riesling Berg
The acronym Berg comes from Auf dem Berg and Silberberg, two neighboring hillside vineyards. This is a wine full of earthy stone fruit and a dry, crisp length that rises far above its "entry" class. The vineyard soils are a variation of France's famous argile-calcaire mix, or clay-limestone mix. (Locally, Berg's soils are known as Muschelkalk, a geological term referring to the middle Triassic period, and in Berg's case it's Muschelkalk topsoil--averaging 3-feet--over limestone bedrock.) The clay gives Riesling body while the calcareous limestone gives finesse, focus, and length.

2019 Domaine des Huards - Cour-Cheverny Blanc Romo
This is the new Romorantin, decidedly not what was generally found a generation ago (which tended to be an acid, austere wine often with oxidative notes). This cuvée has a remarkable nose, akin to high-toned Riesling for some and Loire Chenin for others—a dense wine with layers of flavors reminiscent of apricots and baked apples and other autumn fruits. Bracing, lifted, long, and altogether distinctive. Vines average 35 years of age; the wine is raised in tank on its fine lees and bottled in the spring following harvest, usually before malolactic has a chance to take place.

2018 Domaine Jean-Luc Mouillard l'Etoile Savagnin-Chardonnay Sous Voile
This is a traditional Jura wine, made with Savagnin and Chardonnay, both made sous voile, or under the veil of yeast that forms across wine in a barrel that intentionally is not topped off, and then blended and bottled. 60% Savagnin/40% Chardonnay

2021 Domaine des Huards - Cheverny Rouge Envol
50/50 Pinot Noir and Gamay. A terrific vin de soif and such a pleasure to drink. It has the joy of Gamay and the seriousness of Pinot—the juicy nose and the soulful depths. Vines average 30 years of age; the wine is raised in tank on its fine lees and bottled in the spring following harvest. Malolactic tends to happen with the reds chez Huards.

2020 Domaine Jean-Luc Mouillard Cotes du Jura Trousseau Sur la Cour
One parcel of nearly 3 acres in their commune of Mantry. Trousseau is a Jura native and at some point in its history migrated to Portugal, where it is known as Bastardo. The Mouillard rendition is a lightly-colored wine of notably full, limestony flavors. Lighter years see this wine aged entirely in tank while riper years can see barrel ageing.

2017 Ruggeri Corsini - Barolo DOCG San Pietro
From just over 3 acres of vines growing rather high on the hillside at a southeastern exposure in thin, sandy topsoil. The most traditional of the farm's Barolos, aged strictly in large old Slavonian oak casks (the forests are in Croatia) known as botte, or foudre in French. There is often a chalky minerality in this wine. Roughly 500 cases annually.
