Rosemary Cakebread of Gallica Wines

Saturday, April 20th, 1-4pm

Rosemary has earned her reputation for excellence quietly. She is known for making distinct wines notable for restraint and elegance. A graduate of University of California Davis' Viticulture and Enology program, she was introduced to Cabernet Sauvignon at the historic Inglenook Vineyards. From early cellar jobs to a winemaking position with Spottswoode Vineyard and Winery, Rosemary has built her career around a love for wine. Her appreciation and interest in aromatics and blending was born from work with sparkling wine at Mumm Napa Valley. Of course, making wine also means logging hours and miles in the vineyard throughout the growing season. Rosemary can often be found where she most enjoys being- outdoors in the home vineyard or amongst the vines on the properties we are fortunate to collaborate with.

2023 Rose Estate Vineyard, Napa Valley

Our Rosé is made the old-fashioned way - whole clusters gently pressed to create the most perfect pink hue. We picked Petite Sirah and Cabernet Sauvignon from our organically farmed estate vineyard early in the season to keep the finished wine delightfully dry, crisp, and refreshing. Free of saignée juice, fermentation took place in a selection of stainless barrels and a handful of neutral oak cooperage. Early to pick, first to bottle, and immediately approachable. We recommend enjoying the wine at cellar temperature with food to experience the lovely aromatics and complexity of the vintage. A joyful expression of alpine strawberry, a hint of saline, spring flowers, and a note of savory jump out of the glass.

2023 Albarino Terra Alta Vineyard, Clements Hills, Lodi

From the gently rolling hills of eastern Lodi, this Albariño was grown by the Bokisch family on their beloved Terra Alta Vineyard. Gallica and Bokisch have a shared passion for organic farming and sustainable practices. Our singular white wine, we love Albariño for its distinctive aromas and food paring potential. Varietally accurate and distinctly refreshing, Albariño reminds us of summer and all its bounty. Lemon verbena, white peach, and a hint of fennel from this fascinating terroir, mingles with sea salt and juicy acidity. Without new barrel influence, this is a celebration of Albariño ready to enjoy.

2018 Petite Sirah Estate Vineyard, Napa Valley

From our small estate planting of handsomely old traditionally trained vines, the 2018 vintage is a knockout. A field blend of mostly Petite Sirah with an occasional Alicante and Carignane vine, Petite Sirah represents only 2% of Napa Valley's total grape acreage. A cross of Syrah and Peloursin, botanists and breeder Francois Durif named the grape after himself. Brought to California in the 1880's from France, it was named Petite Sirah in reference to its berry size. We feel fortunate to tend vines over sixty years in ae and still producing an impressive crop. Our version of Petite Sirah is freshly inviting and balanced with moderate sweet tannins. This vintage reveals a pure expression of blueberry pie, dark chocolate, anchored with notes of peat, walnut skin, and sage. Petite Sirah can be cellared however we've crafted this robust variety for simplicity and daily enjoyment.

"The 2018 Petite Sirah reveals a dense purple color as well as a beautiful nose of redcurrants, blueberries, toasted spices, candied orange, and violets. Rich, full-bodied and concentrated, this is an exotic, beautifully balanced, complete Petite Sirah to enjoy anytime over the coming 10-15 years."

2019 Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley

Racy and saturated with hints of blackberry pie and forest floor, the 2019 vintage wears the mantle of Napa Valley at its core with the best of Oakville's high tone personality. Youthful and luminous we love the bold fruit accentuated by juicy and round tannins. Bright and lovely, It can be admired while young but will enjoy a long life with further cellaring. The concentration of inviting flavors and graceful balance is a direct reflection of a wonderful growing season.

"The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is shaping up be another jewel of a wine from Rosemary Cakebread. Ample and explosive, the Cabernet shows all of the natural richness of the vintage in spades. Whereas the 2018 is bright and somewhat reticent, the 2019 is very much an extrovert. I would give it a few years to soften and shed some baby fat. Crème de cassis, licorice and lavender add the closing shades of complexity."
95-98 Points Antonio Galloni Vinous

"The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is top notch stuff and certainly plays with the best in the vintage. Beautiful black fruits, crushed stone, spicy oak, and floral notes define the bouquet, and it's medium to full-bodied, with ripe yet certainly present tannins and one heck of a great finish. This beautiful wine will evolve for 25-30 years if stored properly."
