The 2014 Quinta do Crasto Porto Late Bottled Vintage delivers the structured depth of a premium Douro vintage in a ready-to-drink format, bottled in a full 750ml size that replaces the traditional smaller dessert vessel. Produced from estate-harvested grapes in Portugal’s Upper Douro, this ruby port spends additional time maturing in seasoned wooden casks before release. The prolonged wood contact gently integrates mild oxidation, smoothing early firmness while preserving the vintage’s core fruit concentration.

On the nose, you will find layered dark cherry and blackberry contrasted by toasted almond, cocoa nib, and a trace of dried orange zest. The palate stays balanced and digestible rather than syrupy, leveraging built-in acidity to slice through the medium sweetness. A velvety tannic backbone supports a clean, lingering finish. By skipping the decades-long cellaring required for many Vintage Ports, this Late Bottled style offers immediate aromatic complexity and food versatility right from opening.

Serve the wine slightly chilled, ideally between 57°F and 60°F, to highlight its brighter fruit notes and silky mouthfeel. It tracks well with dark chocolate dishes, aged cheese selections like Gorgonzola or Comté, spiced nut mixes, and rich fruit tarts. Close the bottle with its original cork after pouring and store it upright in a cool cabinet; consume within three to four weeks for peak expression.

95 Points
"The star of the show is the 2022 Ontogeny, a broad, layered, richly textured 2022 that has gorgeous cassis and blue fruits as well as integrated oak, some classic Cabernet graphite, iron, and smoked tobacco. It’s rich, full-bodied, and wonderfully complex, with ripe tannins and a great, great finish. I love it today yet it should cruise over the coming 10-15 years in cold cellars."
