2016 Chateau La Lagune - Medoc (750ml)
Classification: 3ème Grand Cru Classé, Haut-Médoc Blend: 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot | 15% ABV Winemaker: Caroline Frey
The Estate
Among the most iconic châteaux of the Haut-Médoc, La Lagune is frequently mistaken for a Margaux — some even describe it as "Burgundian" — and remains one of the best value propositions among Bordeaux classified growths. Notably, 2016 was the first vintage where La Lagune received 100% organic certification.
Tasting Notes
Complex notes of dark fruits, cedar, cigar tobacco, and hints of saddle leather flow to a medium to full-bodied, perfectly balanced wine with sweet tannins and a great finish. It will keep for 25–30 years.
Neal Martin (Wine Advocate) describes it as lucid purple/black in color with a very intense bouquet of blackberries and sloes, maintaining delineation and focus. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin, fresh tension, and a persistent finish — calling it "an excellent La Lagune, one of the best in recent years."
Jeff Leve of The Wine Cellar Insider adds: "Medium-bodied, elegant, with a showy nose of thyme, mint, flowers, forest, and red pit fruits — focused on finesse and freshness, with a soft, silky, sweet red berry finish."
