2020 Morisoli - Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford (750ml)
The Morisoli family's roots in Rutherford trace back to 1902, when Rocco and Lodovina Morisoli arrived as sharecroppers and slowly saved enough to purchase their farmhouse and land. After Rocco left the family and Napa Valley without explanation in 1910, Lodovina managed the vineyard alone and secured the property for future generations. For decades the family sold their sought-after Cabernet Sauvignon grapes to other Napa producers before fifth-generation Chris Morisoli launched the family's own label in 2018.
The estate spans 53 contiguous acres on the Rutherford Bench, neighboring properties like Inglenook, Scarecrow, and Staglin. The alluvial, gravelly loam soils here were eroded over thousands of years from the Mayacamas range, producing the well-drained ground and classic "Rutherford Dust" character the area is known for. Only a small fraction of the family's total harvest is selected for this bottling, which is aged 26 months in French oak, much of it new.
The wine shows sarsaparilla, boysenberry, and earthy notes on the nose, with bright red cherry, sage, and black currant on the palate. Medium to full-bodied, it carries firm, well-integrated tannins through a long finish. Pair it with grilled porterhouse steak, osso buco, or a nutty aged Gruyère.
