2021 Alain Hudelot-Noellat – Clos de Vougeot (750ml)

Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat was founded in 1962 by Alain Hudelot in Chambolle-Musigny, where it remains based today. The estate built its reputation on a portfolio of exceptional grand and premier cru holdings across Vosne-Romanée, Chambolle-Musigny, and Vougeot. It is now run by Alain's grandson, Charles van Canneyt, who has kept the domaine's traditional, low-intervention style while it continues to rank among the most sought-after names in Burgundy.

The domaine's Clos de Vougeot parcel sits in the upper, better-drained section of this famous walled vineyard, on limestone-rich soil that historically ranks among its finest holdings. Yields in 2021 were sharply reduced by spring frost, leaving the estate with only a handful of barrels rather than its usual complement. The grapes were hand-harvested and gently vinified, then aged in French oak for roughly eighteen months before bottling.

The 2021 opens with wild berries, smoked duck, sweet spices, petals, and orange rind, joined by touches of iris and blue fruit as it airs. The palate is medium to full-bodied, deep, and concentrated, with powdery, still-firm tannins and lively acidity carrying through a long, savory finish. It shows real backbone alongside its perfume, and is a wine built for extended cellaring rather than early drinking.
