When two young Italians landed in Mendoza in 1995 and saw what nobody else was seeing, Argentine wine changed forever. Alberto Antonini — one of Tuscany's most respected winemakers — and entrepreneur Antonio Morescalchi were immediately captivated by the high-altitude vineyards and the largely ignored potential of Malbec. While others were planting Cabernet and Merlot, they bet everything on Malbec and built Altos las Hormigas — "Heights of the Ants" — into one of Mendoza's benchmark organic producers.

The Clásico is their entry statement: pure, unadorned Malbec at its most honest. The philosophy is simple — unite fruit and freshness, unhindered by oak or big ripeness, wines with texture and tension that faithfully express their terroir.  The nose shows characteristic red fruits, raspberries, and freshly picked plums with white pepper. The palate is supple and juicy, with soft but structured tannins and a long finish — this wine is all about freshness.  James Suckling awarded the 2022 vintage 90 points, praising its mineral backbone, vivid red fruit, and polished finish.

A combination of vineyards in Luján de Cuyo and the Uco Valley, this is a delicious example of Malbec full of ripe red fruits and spices, with juicy, vibrant acidity that heightens the flavors — a wine that doesn't try to be anything more than a great Malbec to share around a table. Grilled skirt steak, empanadas, and good company required.
