2022 Lignier-Michelot - Clos de la Roche (750ml)
The Lignier family has tended vines in Morey-Saint-Denis for four generations, historically selling their grapes to négociants before Virgile Lignier began estate-bottling a portion of the harvest in 1992. He took full control of the domaine's roughly ten hectares in 2000, farming with minimal intervention and organic methods across village, premier cru, and grand cru sites, including a small but prized holding in Clos de la Roche.
Lignier-Michelot's Clos de la Roche comes from parcels within the Genavrières and Monts Luisants sections of the climat, and only a handful of barrels are produced each vintage. The wine is fermented with around sixty percent whole clusters, gently extracted, and aged in barrel before further time in tank, unfined and only lightly filtered, to preserve the natural texture of the grapes.
The wine offers sweet red berries and orange zest, with warm spice, loamy soil, and a hint of wet limestone beneath. Full-bodied and layered, it carries a deep core of fruit and supple tannins through a long, savory finish. It pairs well with braised beef cheek, roasted pheasant, or aged Gruyère.
