2022 Lignier-Michelot - Morey St. Denis Faconnieres (750ml)
Domaine Lignier-Michelot remains a true family affair in Morey-Saint-Denis, now in the hands of Virgile Lignier, who took over from his father Maurice and began estate-bottling in 1992. Farming organically and relying on ambient yeasts and minimal cellar intervention, Lignier has built a reputation for wines that let each individual vineyard speak clearly, from village bottlings up through the domaine's grand cru holdings.
Les Faconnières sits mid-slope in Morey-Saint-Denis, directly below Clos de la Roche, on clay-marl soils planted in 1948, making it one of the domaine's oldest and most expressive sites. The 2022 was fermented with around seventy percent whole clusters and minimal extraction, then aged in oak with only a restrained portion new, allowing the vineyard's character to lead.
The wine shows dark berries, plum, and violet, with notes of raw cocoa and warm spice. Medium to full-bodied, it is velvety and layered, with powdery tannins and a rich core of fruit that carries through a long, expansive finish. It pairs well with duck confit, grilled lamb chops, or a firm sheep's-milk cheese.
