McPrice Myers built Bull by the Horns under Hard Working Wines, his more approachable second label, inspired by his father's advice to grab a challenge by the horns. Myers has made a name for himself crafting balanced, textured Cabernet, and Bull by the Horns was created to prove that quality Paso Robles Cabernet doesn't have to come with a high price tag.

This Cabernet Sauvignon is built around 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, rounded out with Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Merlot, and Petite Sirah for added complexity. The grapes are destemmed and given a short cold soak before fermentation, a step meant to deepen color and soften tannins early on. The resulting wine leans full-bodied and generous, with the kind of ripe, sun-driven fruit that Paso Robles is known for.

The 2022 vintage opens with Bing cherry, black currant, and red licorice, layered with blond roast coffee, clove, and sassafras. The full-bodied palate is plush and generous, with fine-grained tannins that glide toward a long, warm finish. It pairs nicely with smoked brisket, roasted root vegetables, or a slice of chocolate cake.

90 Points
"The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Bull By The Horns is scented of baked red cherry and plum with nuances of graphite, tobacco, tea leaves and aniseed. The full-bodied palate offers generous, perfumed fruit. It has supple tannins and just enough juicy acidity to call you in for another sip."
