2022 Susana Esteban A Centenaria Tinto Alentejano (750ml)
94 Points
"A Centenária was first produced in 2021 with grapes from a centenary vineyard with a field blend from the São Mamede mountains. The 2022 A Centenária fermented in open-top stainless steel lagar and matured in old barrels for eight months. Susana wanted to preserve the purity of the old vineyards surrounded by forests, with the freshness from the plants and flowers and no interference from oak. It's quite perfumed and floral, with hints of pine needles and aromatic herbs. It has very good freshness and the texture and fine-grained tannins from the granite soils. The typical field blend from the zone is Trincadeira Preta, Aragonez, Grand Noir, Alicante Bouschet, etc., with a smaller number of varieties than the whites. It has 13% alcohol and a pH of 3.72 with 5.6 grams of acidity. The palate is medium-bodied, fine-boned, elegant and balanced, fresh and elegant, with the delicacy and detail from the old vines. 3,900 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2023."
