2023 Louis Latour - Pouilly Fuisse (750ml)

Maison Louis Latour was founded in Beaune in 1797, though the family's roots as growers in the Côte de Beaune stretch back to 1731. Still independent and family owned, the house has passed down through more than a dozen generations and today holds the largest collection of grand cru vineyards in Burgundy. Alongside its estate wines, Louis Latour has long worked as a négociant, sourcing and vinifying grapes from across the region, including the Mâconnais.

This Pouilly-Fuissé comes from vineyards around Fuissé, Solutré-Pouilly, Vergisson and Chaintré, where limestone and heavy clay soils give Chardonnay its distinctive richness. Vines average around thirty years old. Fermentation is carried out in stainless steel, with full malolactic conversion, and the wine ages another eight to ten months in steel rather than oak, a choice that keeps the fruit bright and the style fresh.

The wine is pale yellow with a floral nose of acacia and honeysuckle, joined by fresh almond and a touch of yellow fruit. On the palate it is round and full, generous and textural, with bright acidity carrying the flavor through to a long, persistent finish. Serve it with shellfish, charcuterie, skate, or a soft washed-rind cheese.
