Barrell Foundation 5yr Double Barrel Bourbon Whiskey 750ml
Barrell Foundation Double Barrel Bourbon comes from Barrell Craft Spirits, a Louisville-based blending house founded by Joe Beatrice in 2013. Rather than distilling in-house, Barrell built its reputation sourcing mature barrels from distilleries across the country and marrying them into complex, small-batch blends, a departure from the single-source model most bourbon brands follow. Foundation represents one of the company's more accessible, non-cask-strength offerings within that portfolio.
This bourbon blends straight whiskeys from four states: eight-year-old Kentucky bourbon, five-, six-, and nine-year-old Indiana bourbon, eight-year-old Tennessee bourbon, and five- and six-year-old Maryland bourbon, unified under a derived mashbill of seventy-three percent corn, twenty-three percent rye, and four percent malted barley. After the initial blend comes together, it undergoes a secondary maturation in freshly toasted new American oak casks, the "double barrel" step that lends additional depth. The finished whiskey is bottled at 100 proof and left non-chill filtered.
Caramel and milk chocolate open the nose alongside baked apple, pumpkin spice, and orange peel. The palate turns warm and creamy, offering orange sponge cake, lightly roasted coffee, and cinnamon over a base of dark chocolate. The finish lingers with vanilla, orange zest, and a touch of white pepper.
