2023 Bordeaux in bottle... Big scores from Antonio Galloni!
Mr. Galloni’s in bottle scores were released this past Friday in his publication, Vinous Media. Safe to say he is a fan of the vintage (as are we) and his in bottle scores tended towards the high side of his previous in barrel range. I had a chance to taste many of these wines myself in late January at the UGC tasting in NYC and found them to be very enjoyable-with some real highlights indeed. They are a testament to the great winemaking in Bordeaux these days with loads of freshness and very well managed tannins. I suspect this is the kind of vintage that will continue to flesh out with time in the bottle and be even better than we thought.

“…The best 2023s are intensely aromatic and perfumed. Many wines are marked by bright acids, vibrant fruit and polished tannins. The wines often present the generous fruit that is typical of warmer years, but with more modest alcohols than what has become the norm in Bordeaux in very warm vintages of the last 25 years. The stylistic shift that is currently underway at many leading properties is another factor that drives the character of the wines…”

*lots of big scoring wines on this list. Besides the obvious 100 pointers (Figeac and Palmer were awesome in barrel), I second Mr. Galloni’s remarks on Rauzan Segla, Laroque, B Becot, and Ducru Beaucaillou
