There is no better place to sample District craft culture than surrounded by towering shelves of legendary vintages and rare spirits. That’s why, when Jonesy mentioned that a tasting at MacArthur Beverages in the Palisades was possible I didn't need much convincing, so this Friday, September 11th he will be here to guide us through a lineup of brews selected for this evening.

MacArthur Beverages has been a cornerstone of D.C.’s wine, and spirits culture since 1957, making it the perfect setting to taste brews from the team that officially brought packaging breweries back to the District after a decades-long drought.

Washington, D.C. was once a historic beer town, but after the legendary Christian Heurich Brewery shuttered in the 1950s, the District went over half a century without a commercial packaging brewery to call its own. That history changed when founders Brandon Skall and Jeff Hancock set out in 2009 to bring full-scale production back to the nation’s capital, officially tapping their very first keg on Tax Day in 2011.

By blending North American and European brewing techniques with premium ingredients, DC Brau revitalized D.C.’s local craft scene. Pairing that history with a shop like MacArthur Beverages, a family-owned institution with over 65 years of D.C. history-felt like the ultimate District team-up.
