Bunnahabhain 12 yr Whiskey 750ml

Bunnahabhain distillery was founded in 1881 by William Robertson and the Greenlees Brothers on a remote stretch of Islay's northeastern coast, along the Sound of Islay. So isolated was the site that it could only be reached by boat until a single-track road was finally built in the 1960s. Unlike most of its Islay neighbors, Bunnahabhain built its reputation on unpeated whisky, standing apart from the island's famously smoky style while still carrying a distinctly maritime character.

The distillery draws its water from the Margadale River, a rare peat-free source on Islay, and mills malt sourced from Port Ellen Maltings. Bunnahabhain's stills are the tallest on the island, with unusually long, pear-shaped necks that allow only the lightest vapors to pass through, yielding a cleaner, more delicate new-make spirit. For the 12 Year Old, that spirit is matured in a blend of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks, then bottled without chill filtration and with no added coloring, preserving its natural texture and hue.

On the palate, this single malt offers sweet orchard fruit, toasted nuts, and vanilla, layered with dried fruit and a faint toffee sweetness from the sherry cask influence. A gentle salinity lingers underneath, a quiet reminder of the distillery's coastal setting, rounding out a whisky that is approachable yet full of character.
