Crafted using traditional Champagne techniques applied to Italy’s highest-acid sparkling grape, this 2017 Lambrusco Christian Bellei Brut delivers extended lees aging and distinct citrus-floral complexity in a highly sought-after metodo classico format.

Christian Bellei trained in Reims before returning to Bomporto to revive his grandfather’s dormant estate, scaling back operations to focus almost exclusively on Lambrusco di Sorbara. Grapes arrive hand-harvested each late September from multi-generational local vineyards. After gentle pressing and primary fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel, the base wine undergoes natural secondary fermentation in bottle. Resting on its lees at a constant 12°C for just over three years creates a refined autolytic backbone rarely found in standard Lambrusco. Disgorgement followed by a restrained light dosage preserves the grape’s natural tension and fruit purity.

The resulting pour strikes a pale straw-yellow hue with subtle greenish tints and steady, fine bubbles. Bright citrus and white blossom aromatics lead directly into a soft, velvety mid-palate defined by brisk acidity and exacting threadlike precision. The experience concludes with a clean, dry finish that leaves the mouth refreshed rather than heavy.

This level of structural balance explains why the cuvée appears on Michelin-starred restaurant lists worldwide. Pour it as an elevated aperitivo, or pair it with fried seafood, aged cheese and cured meats, and simply grilled white fish or roasted chicken.

"The 2017 Brut Rosé Metodo Classico Lambrusco di Sorbara is airy and spicy in the glass. This is pleasantly round with a pretty inner sweetness to balance its mineral-tinged bubbles and tart orchard fruits. The 2017 finishes remarkably fresh as a residual bump of acidity keeps the mouth watering and hints of sour citrus fade. Disgorged: April, 2023.
