Paul Hobbs founded Crossbarn in 2000, naming it after a one-hundred-fifty-year-old barn on his family's fruit farm in upstate New York, a nod to the hard work and integrity that shaped his upbringing. The winery operates out of a former apple processing facility in Sebastopol and channels the same meticulous, sustainably minded approach found across Hobbs's portfolio, offering a more accessible entry point into his winemaking style.

This Pinot Noir is sourced from a handful of carefully chosen vineyards spread across seven appellations within the vast Sonoma Coast AVA, where ocean fog and sandy Goldridge soils keep the grapes cool and slow to ripen. The fruit is hand-harvested at night to preserve freshness, then fermented separately by vineyard using native yeasts before the individual lots are blended, a labor-intensive process meant to capture pure varietal character.

The 2022 vintage shows a bright ruby hue with aromas of pomegranate, cranberry, and crisp red apple skin, lifted by delicate florals and a whisper of forest floor. On the palate, plum, raspberry, and Morello cherry unfold with fine-grained tannins and lively acidity through a long finish. It pairs beautifully with grilled salmon, duck breast, or a wild rice pilaf.

94 Points
"Lots of dried strawberry, umami, seaweed, and bark with some savory undertones. Some flowers. Medium body. Creamy and flavorful. Lovely deliciousness at the end. It’s made from different parts of Paul Hobbs’ top vineyards - George Menini Estate, Cleary Es..."
