2024 Champ Divin - Cremant du Jura Brut Nature (750ml)
Champ Divin, which translates as "the divine field," is a small five-hectare biodynamic estate in Gevingey, in the southern part of the Jura. Valérie and Fabrice Closset-Gaziaux took over Richard Delay's vineyards here in January 2008 and have built a following for their low-intervention wines.
This Crémant du Jura is a Brut Nature, meaning no sugar is added at disgorgement. It is typically a blend of about 70 percent Chardonnay and 30 percent Pinot Noir, and, as the appellation requires, it is made by the traditional method with a second fermentation in bottle. The domaine reserves its first pass, early picked fruit for this bottling and uses only free run juice, a gentle approach that keeps the wine pure and lets the fruit speak. Ripeness prevents the lack of dosage from feeling austere. Alcohol is typically around 13 percent.
Pretty floral hints open the aromas, with ripe orchard fruit behind them. The mousse is creamy rather than aggressive, and the palate is fresh and lively, finishing clean, dry, and delicately mineral.
