2024 Il Monticello - Colli di Luni DOC Vermentino Groppolo (750ml)
Sourced from the sun-drenched coastal slopes where Liguria meets Tuscany, the 2024 Il Monticello Colli di Luni DOC expresses a distinct Mediterranean minerality and crisp acidity. Brothers Alessandro and Davide Neri manage south-southwest-facing vines positioned between 100 and 120 meters above sea level. The root systems draw water and nutrients from a mix of silty sand, clay, and limestone, cultivated under strict organic protocols guided by biodynamic principles.
Cool maritime breezes from the nearby coast slow ripening, allowing grapes to concentrate flavor while retaining vibrant acidity. The winemaking team ferments the juice at controlled low temperatures in stainless steel vats, then leaves the wine briefly on its fine lees to integrate texture before bottling. The resulting pour presents a clear straw-yellow hue with a focused aromatic profile of ripe citrus, white peach, Williams pear, and garden herbs like thyme and sweet basil. On the palate, the wine builds quickly into a rich, enveloping midsection that remains tightly wound by bright acidity, ultimately resolving into a clean, saline finish that echoes the region’s coastal geology.
Serve well-chilled alongside shucked oysters, pan-seared scallops, anchovy-topped crostini, or classic Ligurian pesto pasta. Its pronounced salinity and structured backbone also complement herb-roasted chicken and mild goat cheese salads, making it a reliable option for standalone sipping as a pre-dinner aperitivo.
