2025 Romain Chamiot - Apremont (750ml)
Romain Chamiot is a young vigneron who returned to Apremont after studying oenology in Beaune and took over the family's vines from his grandparents. The Chamiots have farmed here for generations, and he has worked organically since 2017. His domaine covers seven hectares spread across about 30 parcels beneath Mont Granier.
Apremont is one of the leading crus of Vin de Savoie, on slopes south of Chambéry that descend toward the Isère River. Clay-marl and limestone scree soils, left by an ancient landslide, support mostly 40 to 50 year old Jacquère vines, with some parcels reaching 80 years. Most vines are tended by hand, and the harvest is picked parcel by parcel over about two weeks. This 100 percent Jacquère is fermented and aged in a mix of stainless steel and enamel, with time on its lees for modest texture. A few grams of residual sugar and very low added sulfur complete the style.
Lemon, underripe mountain citrus, and white flowers lead, with subtle herbal accents. The palate is lively and clean, with just enough flesh from a touch of residual sugar and lees contact, finishing on a stony, mineral note.
