2022 Der Pollerhof – Grüner Veltliner Organic (1L) is Austria’s most delightful liter — and one of the best-value bottles in the shop. Imported exclusively by Bassins Direct, this bottle showcases the Poller family’s long history in Röschitz, in the western Weinviertel, where winemaking has been a family craft since 1660.
Under winemaker Erwin Poller—who took the reins at 24—the estate has become a benchmark for organic viticulture. The vineyard team keeps chickens in the vines to fertilize the soil and help control pests, protected each evening by a solar-powered coop door.
Grapes are hand-harvested and grown on complex soils of loess over chalk and granite. The wine is vinified with the estate’s own yeast culture in stainless steel to preserve maximum freshness and varietal character.
The result is quite full-bodied for a liter Grüner, with a serious character and a beautifully balanced profile: citrus, green apple, and ripe pear, plus the grape’s signature white pepper snap. The wine carries zesty acidity, spicy mineral notes, and a clean saline finish that makes you reach for another glass.
