2022 Quinta Nova - Douro Pomares Branco (750ml)
Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo is one of the Douro's most storied estates, with vineyards recorded since the region's first official demarcation in 1756. Spanning over 120 hectares split across 41 distinct plots, it was the first property in the Douro to plant single varietal blocks and open its doors to wine tourism. Since 1999 the estate has belonged to the Amorim family, now in its fourth generation of ownership, under the direction of Luisa Amorim, with winemaker Jorge Alves overseeing a style built on freshness and precise expression of terroir.
Pomares Branco draws on Viosinho, Gouveio, and Rabigato grown on steep schist terraces along the Douro River's northern bank, at elevations between 300 and 400 meters where a cooler microclimate helps preserve natural acidity and aromatic intensity. The grapes are hand harvested and, after fermentation, the wine rests on its lees in stainless steel for about four months, a technique that adds a touch of roundness and texture without dulling the wine's inherent brightness.
The 2022 opens with an inviting mix of meadow flowers, green apple, and vine peach, joined by hints of citrus and a light minerality. On the palate it is vibrant and well balanced, with the sur lie aging lending a subtle richness to the finish that keeps the wine feeling polished rather than sharp. It makes a natural match for herb-roasted chicken, grilled shellfish, or a simple summer salad.
