A half-hectare single-cru Nebbiolo from Barbaresco’s renowned Asili sector, the 2021 Giordano delivers structured elegance backed by five generations of family viticulture. The southeast-facing amphitheater slopes and light-gray Sant’Agata Fossili marl soils extend phenolic maturation well into October, preserving vibrant acidity while coaxing out delicate aromatic compounds.

Luigi Giordano keeps cellar intervention minimal. After a controlled 20–25 day skin contact in temperature-managed stainless steel tanks, the wine ages in large, 25-year-old Slavonian oak casks. This gentle approach preserves the site’s typicity and ensures the fruit remains prominent rather than overshadowed by wood influence.

The 2021 vintage reveals a fragrant bouquet of crushed violets, dried roses, vanilla, and baking spices. On the palate, succulent red cherry and rhubarb lead a glycerine-textured mid-section, while fine tannins provide structure. The finish stretches long and peppery, leaving traces of oolong tea, wild berries, and forest floor.

Suggested Pairings: Naturally complements traditional Piedmontese cuisine like braised veal shanks, tajarin pasta with porcini, roasted rabbit, aged Castelmagno cheese, and mushroom-forward vegetarian dishes.

91 Points
"Approachable out of the gate, the 2021 Barbaresco Asili has a more floral and strawberry-noted profile, with a touch of licorice. Approachable on the palate as well, it has ripe tannins and a clean finish. I love where this is right now, and it should do well over the next 6-8 years."
