2001 D'Oliveiras - Madeira Boal Colheita (750ml)
Pereira D’Oliveira is a family house in Funchal, founded in 1850 and still family run. It’s famous for its deep cellar of old single-vintage Madeiras, released only when the family thinks they’re ready. This 2001 Boal spent its life slowly maturing in old oak casks, gaining depth and complexity year after year before bottling. Boal is the medium-sweet style of Madeira, richer than Sercial or Verdelho but less lush than Malvasia, and always balanced by Madeira’s signature acidity. Expect macerated cherry, quince jam, espresso and mocha, with dried flowers, spice cake and a hint of salted caramel. The palate is soft and generous, and the finish is long, tangy and gently smoky. Pour it after dinner with nuts, aged cheese or chocolate desserts. Like all great Madeira, it stays fresh for weeks once opened.
