The 2019 La Poderina Brunello di Montalcino delivers highly concentrated Sangiovese Grosso expression through sub-regional yield management and extended oak contact, creating a structured vintage built for gradual cellar evolution. Cultivated on 25 dedicated acres roughly eight kilometers south of Montalcino at approximately 350 meters elevation, the vineyards anchor in medium loam soils layered with clay deposits and natural organic matter. By enforcing harvest yields well beneath traditional appellation limits, the estate prioritizes flavor density and phenolic ripeness over crop volume.

Following alcoholic fermentation, the wine matures across a calculated split of roughly 60 percent French oak barriques and 40 percent large-format Italian and Slavonian oak casks. This hybrid approach preserves bright primary fruit while integrating textural complexity, followed by a standard eighteen-month bottle rest that further harmonizes acidity, alcohol, and tannin before release.

The vintage presents a deep ruby core with clear garnet reflections. The aromatics layer black cherry, crushed wild berry, and vanilla against deeper earthy tones of damp forest floor and warm baking spice. On the palate, it unfolds as rich and full-bodied with a firm structural backbone that will soften noticeably after three to five years of storage. Because of its balanced acidity and savory progression, this Brunello matches optimally with herb-roasted poultry, slow-braised game meats, and sharp, aged Pecorino cheeses.

94 Points
"The well-made La Poderina 2019 Brunello di Montalcino offers a wide-reaching bouquet with a little bit of everything you might expect of this celebrated Sangiovese-based appellation. There are elements of ripe fruit, blackberry, potting soil, graham cracker and sweet spice. All these various pieces get wrapped up in a nicely intense bouquet. This wine offers solid texture over a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel. This is a 68,000-bottle production."
