NV Roederer Estate - Anderson Valley Brut
Roederer Estate is the California outpost of Champagne Louis Roederer, which began planting vines in Anderson Valley in 1982. Based in Philo, in Mendocino County, the estate farms about 600 acres of organically and biodynamically managed vineyards and is one of the few California sparkling houses to rely only on its own fruit.
This multi-vintage Brut is built from 60 percent Chardonnay and 40 percent Pinot Noir grown in the cool, fog-shrouded valley, where the winemaker notes naturally high acidity. Each year, 10 to 15 percent of the blend comes from oak-aged reserve wines held in the estate's cellars, a hallmark of the Roederer style that adds texture and length. After secondary fermentation in bottle, the wine ages a minimum of two years on its yeast. It is finished with a dosage of about 10 grams per liter and bottled at 12.5 percent alcohol.
Aromas of lemon oil, white flowers, and almond lead into pear, green apple, and Meyer lemon, with toasty brioche and hazelnut from the lees. A refined mousse and lively acidity give the dry palate a crisp, elegant line and a long finish.
