The 2021 Muga Rioja Reserva (750ml) embodies one of Rioja’s most traditional houses, founded in Haro in 1932, with its own in-house cooperage that provides total control over oak character from barrel to bottle.

Produced by a producer renowned for adhering to classic Rioja methods, this wine is hand harvested and fermented with indigenous yeasts in wooden vats, then aged for 24 months in 80% French and 20% American oak. It is egg white fined and cellared a minimum of 12 months before release, ensuring a refined balance between fruit and barrel influence.

On the palate, it presents as fresh and minerally upfront, opening to a fine mesh of chopped cherry and plum skin flavors with fragrant hints of ground coffee, smoked paprika, and dried marjoram. Sculpted tannins shape a long, slightly chewy finish that lingers with savory nuance.

The Wine Advocate calls it a “textbook example” of the Muga style, noting its clout, elegance and freshness. Recognized by Wine Spectator as the 2025 Wine Value of the Year, it’s celebrated as one of the greatest values in all of Spain. Drink now–2035.
