2022 Vina Cobos (Paul Hobbs) - Cocodrilo Corte Mendoza Red Blend (750ml)

Paul Hobbs brings his legendary Californian precision to this bold, Bordeaux-inspired red from the high-altitude vineyards of Mendoza — and the results are nothing short of outstanding. Named #39 on Wine Spectator's Top 100 of 2024 and awarded 93 Points by James Suckling, who praised its deep ruby color, aromas of sweet spices, roasted red pepper, clove, and dark chocolate, with a balanced and juicy palate of sweet tannins and a long finish. Wine Spectator awarded 92 Points, noting a graphite and cigar box underpinning of impressive depth and character. 

A blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Cabernet Franc, 5% Malbec, and 1% Syrah, sourced from vineyards in Luján de Cuyo and the Uco Valley, aged for 15 months in 40% new French oak. This is Mendoza's answer to a great Napa or Bordeaux blend — structured and sophisticated yet unmistakably Argentine in its generous, sun-drenched fruit character. The nose opens with a harmonious interplay of red and black fruits with accents of dried herbs, tobacco, and coffee beans, followed by a supple, polished texture and a fresh, pleasantly drying finish. Bing cherry, black pepper, cigar leaf, and chocolate-covered violets weave together in a wine that is, as one critic put it, more athletic than muscular — structured and compelling without ever tipping into excess.
