2023 Coquard Loison Fleurot - Bourgogne Rouge (750ml)
The Domaine
Domaine Coquard Loison Fleurot (CLF) is located in Flagey-Échézeaux. After making the shift to domaine bottling in 2009/2010, following many years of selling grapes to négociants, CLF rapidly built a very strong reputation with constant care for quality throughout their holdings in 12 appellations, of which no less than 6 are Grands Crus. Thomas Colladot, the son of a Coquard, makes the wine, while the commercial side is handled by Claire Fleurot. There is no bought-in fruit at CLF — all the juice comes from the domaine's own vines, most of which were planted in the 1950s, farmed using organic principles.
The Wine
The 2023 Bourgogne Rouge comes from vines in Flagey-Échézeaux. It offers a mixture of red and black fruit on the nose, with just a touch of black olive coming through with time. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins.
A UK importer describes it as: pure, bright red-berried fruit, wild strawberry, very fine, crunchy and perfumed — silky on the palate, ripe fruit but fresh and ready to go.
